What Are Post Adoption Services?

 

The first questions we want to ask ourselves are "What are Post Adoption Services? Who do they help and what are they for?"

What Post Adoption Services ARE

Post Adoption Services help the adoptive family and adopted child:

  • Adjust to the adoption.
  • Cope with any history of abuse or neglect in the child's background.
  • Cope with mental health issues the child may have.
  • Avoid the permanent or long-term removal of children from the family.

Post Adoption Services:

  • Is not a monitoring program - These are programs that have been offered and accepted by adoptive families.
  • Is not a required program following an adoption -- A family has the right to stop the program anytime they deem themselves ready or want to stop.
  • Is not a service that adoptive families must enroll in.
  • Is not a recommendation of the provider the family must follow.
  • Is not maintaining contact with the provider.
