Even More About Bed-Sharing

A baby sleeping between her mom and a bulky quilt. Some of the other situations where bed-sharing is dangerous are:

  • The parent or caregiver sleeping with the baby might have taken medicines or drugs, (either prescription or illicit), that might make it harder for them to wake up if the baby is distressed or becomes trapped beneath them.
  • The parent or caregiver drank any alcohol.
  • If the baby is old enough to roll over, he or she could fall off the bed, causing an injury.
  • The people with the baby are not the baby's parents as this is against Texas Administrative Code Rules.
