During the initial face-to-face contact with the parent or caregiver, the caseworker completes the following tasks and documents them in a case contact:
- Gives the Keeping Children Safe Wherever You Go! document to the parent or caregiver and discusses the topics.(There is an entire section in this document about SafeSleep).
- If there is an infant (under 12 months of age), observes the area where the infant sleeps for any unsafe sleep practices
- With ongoing contacts, the caseworker, at least once a month views the sleeping arrangements for any child under 12 months of age and discusses them with the parents or caregivers
- The caseworker would do this more often if they had reason to believe the parents or caregivers were not following safe sleep guidelines
- If there are any issues the caseworker helps the family obtain:
- Bedding
- Cribs
- Beds as soon as possible, to make sure all children are safe
